Who is Mary Clare?

 From the beginning;
I knew I was going to be an artist from the time I was just tall enough to peer over the table to watch my older sister draw something for me.  She was good. One Easter morning, I must have only been about 4 or 5 years old, I watched how she drew a little chickadee for me and a bunny for my brother.  I analyzed the simple shapes she used to create these adorable Easter critters and thought to myself "I can do that".  Walked over to find a sheet of paper and a pencil, drew one of my own and never once asked her to draw for me again;  I did it all on my own from that day forward.

I grew up to become an Art teacher and a professional artist on the side. I now work as a full-time artist and instructor.  I have three beautiful 'children' (they are all adults now).  My mother, who is the true reason I am an artist, had eleven children and I was lucky enough to be her eleventh.  My mother was a multi-talented woman who could play the piano, accordion, trumpet, organ  (to name only a few) and was filled with the artistic talents to draw, paint, crochet, knit and collage. Thank you mom for sharing that drawing gene!

Wish to make a purchase?  On the following pages, you will see my artwork categorized by subject.  I enjoy working with many mediums, so use this like an art gallery to see what I have been working on.  Take a stroll and consider buying a work of art for your home or office. This piece of artwork below is a self-portrait of me when I was just four years old, when my life was still filled with possibilities.  Where would I go, what will I be, what is out there in the world for me?  I call this piece "Envisioning My Future;  the world is at my fingertips".  Each bubble surrounding me is filled with details that represent a different aspect of my life from my upbringing, my education, to where I have lived, to what I am as a teacher and artist, to my own family.
